Car Out Level 9: Master the Jam

Updated: April 202612 min read

Welcome to Car Out Level 9. This is the final checkpoint before the legendary Boss Level. Level 9 requires you to master complex exit path planning with multiple intermediate waypoints. You will need to divide the puzzle into stages and solve each stage sequentially, using the solution of one stage to enable the next. This is the level that separates good puzzle solvers from great ones.

The Waypoint System

In Level 9, the exit path is not a straight line but a multi-segment journey with waypoints. A waypoint is a position that your target car must pass through on its way to the exit. Each waypoint is typically guarded by a specific set of blocking vehicles.

Understanding the waypoint system is crucial:

  • Waypoint 1: Near the target car's starting position
  • Waypoint 2: Middle of the grid where multiple paths converge
  • Waypoint 3: Near the exit, final obstacle before freedom

Each waypoint requires its own mini-solution to clear. The skill is in sequencing these mini-solutions into a coherent whole.

The Waypoint Mindset

Instead of trying to solve the entire puzzle at once, focus on clearing one waypoint at a time. Each cleared waypoint makes the next one easier.

Multi-Stage Planning

Level 9 requires you to think in terms of stages. A stage is a group of moves that accomplishes a specific sub-goal, such as clearing a waypoint or creating space for the next sequence.

The multi-stage approach involves:

  1. Dividing the puzzle into logical stages based on waypoints
  2. Solving each stage independently (but with awareness of subsequent stages)
  3. Ensuring each stage's solution leaves the puzzle in a state that enables the next stage
  4. Executing stages sequentially without backtracking

This level might require 10-15 total moves divided into 3-4 stages.

Step-by-Step Solution

  1. Preview the Exit Path

Mentally trace the complete path from target car to exit, identifying all intermediate waypoints and the vehicles that guard each waypoint.

  2. Divide into Stages

Break the puzzle into 3-4 stages based on waypoints. Solve each stage sequentially, using the solution of one stage to enable the next.

  3. Execute Stage by Stage

Work through each stage methodically, clearing waypoints and advancing toward the exit.

  4. Complete the Final Push

With all waypoints cleared, execute the final moves to guide the target car to freedom.

Stage Transitions

The most challenging part of Level 9 is managing stage transitions. A stage transition occurs when the solution of one stage must leave the puzzle in a specific state for the next stage to be solvable.

Common stage transition challenges:

  • Moving a vehicle to solve Stage 1 might inadvertently block Stage 3
  • Creating space for Stage 2 might require vehicles that are needed for Stage 3
  • Vehicles that seem beneficial to move early might be better left until later stages

The Transition Principle

Always consider how your current stage's moves affect future stages. The best Stage 1 solution is one that makes Stages 2 and 3 easier to solve.

Common Mistakes in Level 9

Solving Stages Out of Order

Attempting to clear Waypoint 3 before Waypoint 1 creates impossible intermediate states.

Stage Contamination

Moving vehicles needed for future stages to solve current stages.

Incomplete Waypoints

Partially clearing a waypoint and assuming it is enough. Waypoints must be completely clear to enable the next stage.

Face the Boss Level

Level 9 has prepared you for the ultimate challenge. Level 10, the Boss Level, requires a 10+ step deep logic sequence that will test everything you have learned.
