Car Out Level 4: Clear the Path

Updated: April 20267 min read

Welcome to Car Out Level 4. This level teaches you a crucial skill: creating a complete straight-line path to the exit. While previous levels had you moving individual obstacles, Level 4 requires you to think about the entire corridor between your target car and freedom. Master this concept, and you will find many later levels much easier to solve.

The Straight-Line Principle

In Level 4, the puzzle is designed so that a straight-line path to the exit is achievable but not immediately obvious. Your task is to identify which vehicles occupy this corridor and remove them in the correct order.

The straight-line principle is deceptively simple: your target car can only exit if there is a completely unobstructed path in a single direction. Any vehicle touching this invisible line must be moved before you can complete the level.

Visualization Exercise

Imagine drawing a straight line from your target car to the exit. Any vehicle that this line crosses must be moved. This is your "path clearance list."

Identifying the Corridor

The first step is to clearly identify your exit corridor. In Level 4, this corridor may span multiple rows or columns, and vehicles may be positioned at various points along it.

  1. Locate your target vehicle and confirm the exit direction
  2. Trace the direct line (horizontal or vertical) to the exit
  3. Mark every vehicle that intersects this line
  4. For each intersecting vehicle, determine if it can be moved along its axis to clear the line

Level 4 typically has 10-12 vehicles with 3-5 of them directly blocking your corridor. The skill is not just identifying them, but determining the correct order to move them so you do not create new blockages.

Step-by-Step Solution

  1. Survey the Grid

Take stock of all vehicles and identify the direct line from target car to exit. Note all obstacles in this path and their orientations.

  2. Clear the Primary Path

Remove all vehicles that occupy the direct line between your car and the exit. Create a completely unobstructed straight path.

  3. Manage Adjacent Vehicles

Move any vehicles adjacent to your path that might interfere with the final exit maneuver.

  4. Execute the Exit

With a clear straight path, slide your target car directly to freedom.

Why Straight Paths Matter

Many new players make the mistake of trying to weave their target car through gaps rather than creating a clean exit path. While creative maneuvering can sometimes work, it is inefficient and often leads to getting stuck.

A straight path is always preferable because:

  • It requires the minimum number of moves
  • It is predictable and easy to verify
  • It avoids the risk of creating new blockages
  • It scales well to more complex levels

The Corridor Mindset

Think of the exit corridor as sacred space. Your goal is to keep this corridor clear at all costs. Any vehicle that enters the corridor must be evicted before you can exit.

Common Mistakes in Level 4

Partial Path Clearance

Moving only some vehicles from the corridor and assuming the path is clear. Always verify there are zero obstacles before attempting to exit.

Ignoring Vehicle Length

Trucks span 3 units. A truck positioned partially in your corridor still blocks it completely.

Forgetting the Target Car Orientation

Your target car must be able to move in a straight line. If it is vertical but needs a horizontal exit, you need to rotate your approach.

Ready for the Challenge Ahead

Level 4 has equipped you with the corridor concept. Level 5 will introduce your first real puzzle: the "reverse driving" technique for creating space. This is where parking puzzle logic gets interesting.
